Anna’s Country Kitchen San Marzano Tomatoes are a D.O.P. product, which means they are grown in one protected geographical region of Italy – Valle del Sarno. Only the San Marzano tomatoes grown in this region comply with Italian law and can be classified as Pomodoro S. Marzano dell’Agro Sarnese-Nocerino and have the EU “DOP” emblem on the label. Compared to Roma tomatoes, with which most people are familiar, San Marzano tomatoes are thinner and pointier in shape. The flesh is much thicker with fewer seeds, and the taste is much stronger, more sweet, and less acidic.
